PRFF’S SECOND YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION

The Puerto Rico Flute Festival’s 2nd Young Artist Competition will take place from June 11 to 13, 2027, with the first round being a video submission and the final round being held live in San Juan, Puerto Rico on June 13, 2027.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

To be considered, applicants should submit the following materials via Muvac by Wednesday, December 1, 2026, 11:59PM AST. Late applications will not be considered.

A photocopy of a national identity card or passport.

Biography (max. 300 words).

A high-definition photo with the instrument.

A YouTube link for the recorded video round.

Proof of payment for the non-refundable application fee of $60.

All applicants will be notified of the selection results on January 30, 2027. Previous first prize winners are ineligible to apply. We advise all applicants to carefully review the rules and general information before applying to maximize their chances in the competition.

All contestants must carefully review the video recording rules and guidelines to enhance their chances of advancing and to ensure that the jury can accurately evaluate the videos.

Applications that do not adhere to all rules and guidelines will be disqualified.

GUIDELINES

  • Record in a place with the least amount of noise possible.
  • Make sure that your body and flute are fully visible in the recording at all times.
  • Ensure you have good lighting to highlight your performance and enhance video quality.

NOTE: For international applicants, please revise visa entry requirements to enter the United States/Puerto Rico.

 

RECORDING RULES

  • All solo pieces must be recorded in one continuous take; no edits or cuts are permitted between pieces/movements.
  • For the Sonata for Flute and Piano by A. Villarini, the piece must also be recorded in one continuous take; no edits or cuts are permitted. Piano accompaniment is required.
  • Pieces must be recorded in the order mentioned.
  • All pieces must be in one single video when submitting.
  • Audio must not be edited or enhanced.
  • Applicants must be fully visible at all times during the recording.
  • Videos must be recorded in a horizontal format.
  • The video link must be from YouTube.

SECOND PLACE

  • $700 USD
  • Full Access & Masterclass Participation at the 2028 Texas Summer Flute Symposium in Texas, USA

THIRD PLACE

  • $500 USD
  • Full Access and Masterclass Participation at the 2027 Los Angeles Flute Convention in Los Angeles, California, USA

Prize payments will be issued by electronic transfer, check, or another method determined by the Puerto Rico Flute Festival.
